Mary Hipp is the President of AAF Cleveland and the Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Think Media Studios, a full-service video production company that was founded in 2004. She is also an AAF CLE Awards “4 Under 40” Honoree this year (tickets available here). As a corporate member of AAF for the past four years, we caught up with her to chat more about Think Media’s involvement with Cleveland’s creative community and the AAF membership has helped make some valuable connections along the day.
Tell us a little bit about Think Media and your role there.
Think Media Studios is a 13-year-old full-service video production company that is Cleveland-born and bred. We have a staff of 20 people that make up our creative team, production department, editorial staff and business office and can take a project from creative concept to completion. We also work our agency partners as an extension of their creative team to seamlessly carry out their creative vision for their clients.
What is Think most excited about in terms of marketing/video production/communications/advertising in 2017?
This industry is constantly changing and that is what keeps it exciting! Whether it is acquiring new gear or technology, experimenting with unique special effects, or getting the chance to tell a story in a beautiful and compelling way – each day is different. While the approach or the execution may change, the overall ability to move, entertain and captivate audiences remains the most powerful aspect of this medium.
Video is a great way to show off Cleveland. What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve been working on or just wrapped up?
It is a great way to show off Cleveland and everything that has been happening in this city! One of our favorite Cleveland clients has been the Cleveland Cavaliers. We’ve been working with their marketing team for seven years to produce the game-opening videos that get the crowd energized prior to tip-off. We’ve also done some really neat Virtual Reality work for Ohio Tourism that allows people to virtually “visit” some of the exciting hot spots in Cleveland and all around Ohio. Currently, we are working on the latest music video for Machine Gun Kelley’s new single “Let you Go.”
Some of our other clients include PlayhouseSquare, Henkel Adhesives, Shurtech, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve, and the Cleveland Marathon. But we work with many of the agencies in town like Marcus Thomas, Twist Creative, Recess Creative and Global Prairie. Working with our agency friends is really exciting for us because we get the chance to collaborate on projects for their clients as well.
Recently, we had two documentaries premier in the Cleveland International Film Festival. “Burn the Ships” and “A More Civil War” are both local stories and saw tremendous success at the festival with sold out screenings in every theater.
What has been the most valuable takeaway of your AAF Corporate Membership?
Without a doubt, the greatest benefit to come from our AAF Corporate Membership has been the relationships forged with other likeminded professionals in our industry. Collaborating with agencies and vendors that we have met through AAF Cleveland has afforded our team opportunities to grow creatively and has opened doors to new and rewarding projects.
