 Cyndi may have been referring to her “main squeeze” in this song, but as sales and marketing professionals we are constantly trying to send this same message to our clients: we will always be there for you when you need us. Clients are looking for educated and trusted partners that help them find the right solutions and who isn’t focused on “selling them”. These days, the relationships and connections we make are the most important part of any business.

Finding, building, and nurturing those relationships is the reason why organizations like the American Advertising Federation of Cleveland are so valuable. The AAF provides a great source of relevant connections to help you build a network that you can call on. Networking opens the door to opportunities you may not have otherwise been able to make. Events like the ADDYs bring together this amazing advertising community to celebrate each other’s successes and connect with each other over a cause.

I know that’s more valuable to me than it is you, but you should do it anyway. And oh, by the way, when I change my information, all that work I’m asking you to do will be useless.

First of all, it’s a little ridiculous that in a time where technology has advanced so much that we all carry around little computers in our pockets at all times, we’re still dependent on a 600-year-old ritual that depends on the exchange of little pieces of paper.

Second of all, the numbers say that little ritual is actually pretty fruitless – 88% of business cards are thrown away within a week. Even more painful is how quickly that information becomes obsolete – according to LeadGenius, the average B2B sales and marketing database decays at more than 3% per month across all industries. The rise of the gig economy, freelancers, and people holding multiple positions and volunteer opportunities brings the need for a better method for connection.
