Creating Better Relationships Time After Time

Cyndi may have been referring to her “main squeeze” in this song, but as sales and marketing professionals we are constantly trying to send this same message to our clients: we will always be there for you when you need us. Clients are looking for educated and trusted partners that help them find the right solutions and who isn’t focused on “selling them”. These days, the relationships and connections we make are the most important part of any business.
Finding, building, and nurturing those relationships is the reason why organizations like the American Advertising Federation of Cleveland are so valuable. The AAF provides a great source of relevant connections to help you build a network that you can call on. Networking opens the door to opportunities you may not have otherwise been able to make. Events like the ADDYs bring together this amazing advertising community to celebrate each other’s successes and connect with each other over a cause.
At Convey, we believe in the power of communities like AAF and are working on solutions to help the professionals within those communities to nurture these valuable relationships. Our first goal was to tackle the way we connect. We stepped back and realized how broken the current paradigm of connection was. The exchanging of business cards have been a social ritual for more than 600 years. Something happens when things become rituals though – at some point we stop asking why we do what we do. We do things because it’s “the way things are done”.
The truth is that the process of connecting is pretty difficult. Think of it this way: the first thing we do after meeting someone is ask them to work on your behalf by manually recording your contact information. If you really look at the current conversation, it goes like this:
“Hey, so nice to meet you. I’m going to give you a piece of paper with my contact info on it. Make sure to enter that information into your contact database or CRM. I know that’s more valuable to me than it is you, but you should do it anyway. And oh, by the way, when I change my information, all that work I’m asking you to do will be useless.
First of all, it’s a little ridiculous that in a time where technology has advanced so much that we all carry around little computers in our pockets at all times, we’re still dependent on a 600-year-old ritual that depends on the exchange of little pieces of paper.
Second of all, the numbers say that little ritual is actually pretty fruitless – 88% of business cards are thrown away within a week. Even more painful is how quickly that information becomes obsolete – according to LeadGenius, the average B2B sales and marketing database decays at more than 3% per month across all industries. The rise of the gig economy, freelancers, and people holding multiple positions and volunteer opportunities brings the need for a better method for connection.
Convey is working on changing the conversation, the ritual, and the whole paradigm. We want the new conversation when two people meet to be:
“Hi – let me give you my information. You’ll have it anytime you need it, always accurate and up to date, without doing any work!”
We’re working on a set of easy-to-use tools to allow you to make, and never lose touch with, valuable connections. If you use Convey today to create a live connection with someone, you will never lose touch. If their title changes, or their email changes, or they get a new mobile phone number, you will have it instantaneously. If they add a new social handle or change their office location, you will always be up-to-date.
- We learned in conversations with over 600 business people, it’s all about the connections, not the actual contact information. Our true purpose is to allow you to create and maintain valuable relationships. We’re hard at work on tools that will help you create and maintain relationships, and deliver value to those
Just like the AAF, we believe in the power of connections, that’s why we are bringing a unique networking experience to the ADDYs this year. So make sure to download the app before the event so you can connect instantly with all your old and new relationships so you can keep finding each other “time after time” just like Cyndi.
See you on Feb 22nd at the ADDYs – looking forward to connecting!
