Full Job Description
The Director of Photography and Videography is responsible for creating visual imagery to advance the University’s brand and reputation, including still photography, video and multi-media productions for the promotion use of the University. Primary responsibilities include collaboration with the communications staff and other campus departments to craft and achieve communications goals through visual images and effective management of available resources to meet these goals.

Portfolio:
Candidate should present a portfolio for review that includes a range of images and video--such as sports photography, portraits, environments, group shots, and architecture—that have been personally produced as well as images produced by others under the candidate’s direction. Essential duties, tasks and responsibilities:

Skills: Effective verbal, written and visual communication skills are required. The ability to manage and direct student assistants and hired professionals is key. Experience in creating and refining photography and video with current and professional standards and tools is essential, as is the ability to direct others in those tasks. Effective digital asset management. Scheduling, inventory control, property control and budget management. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Physical Effort:

This position will operate and transport cameras, video, and sound equipment weighing up to fifty pounds to locations on and off-campus.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with art directors, designers, writers, photographers and videographers to create the highest quality images that tell the story and express the University's brand
• Brainstorm, plan and coordinate with University Relations and other campus departments to identify project objectives and appropriate people and locations for photos assigned
• Manage, schedule and direct student and freelance photographers and videographers
• Shoot photos and video in support of public information
• In coordination with marketing and public information, develop and execute visual posts and campaigns for social media, with primary responsibility for Instagram
• Deliver, distribute, and post digital images as required, including enhancing and retouching the quality of digital images to prepare them for publication through the latest technologies available including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, and other related software/technology
• Archive, maintain, and expand the images in a digital repository to make
them easily retrievable and searchable by category, key word search, etc. (Extensis Portfolio)
• Managing equipment, technology, studio space and other photo/video
resources
• Strong understanding of photography used in print, social media, and web

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years’ experience as a professional photographer and three years demonstrated experience in videography
• Demonstrated knowledge of lighting materials, techniques and media
• Demonstrated knowledge of video equipment, production and editing techniques as well as applications for traditional and new media
• Demonstrated experience managing and directing a team of individuals schedule, projects and outcomes
• A self-starter with a strong sense of customer service, must be able to work effectively and courteously in a collaborative environment
• Must display initiative in identifying and meeting institutional visual communication needs
• Skill in the use of computers, Mac environment and Adobe Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier Pro, and Standard Adobe Creative Suite Software.
• Best practices of video file protocols and standards
• Knowledge of new advancements in photography equipment, image management and techniques
• Willing to work non-traditional hours, including frequent evening and weekend assignments during the academic year
• Maintains current knowledge of photographic and lighting techniques, best practices and emerging trends and technologies in visual communication
• Able to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
• Knowledge of and willingness to use social media tools to disseminate photos/video (ie: YouTube, Flickr, etc.)
• Must successfully complete a background check
• Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license
