Full Job Description
Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist serves as a cross-trained communications team member that initiates graphic design, coordinates copy, images and other media for all ideastream promotion, advertising, marketing, and communications through multiple media including but not limited to broadcast, print, digital, web and social media.

1. Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Format, edit and source content (text and images) for monthly and quarterly (20 total per year) station program guides.
• Create and resize various print and digital ads using existing templates and design specifications.
• Research, write and coordinate creation and distribution of promotional materials including program guides, e-newsletters, advertising, web content and other communications with an accurate and consistent presentation to targeted distribution points as assigned.
• Assist in promotional activities designed to increase awareness of ideastream and its programs, public service, and audience engagement activities.
• Coordinate vendor relationships involved the production and distribution of program guides, e-newsletters and other marketing communications.
• Support special events of the organization through pre-event promotion and attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, Aptitudes:

• Demonstrated enthusiasm for excellence and creativity.
• Experience using Adobe InDesign and other Creative Suite programs.
• Understanding of graphic design and production for promotional materials including advertisements, postcards and web banners.
• Strong experience in writing and editing, especially in the areas of institutional communications, promotion, web and advertising.

• Familiarity with email service providers such as MailChimp and general understanding of email marketing best practices.
• Acute attention to detail and strong proofreading skills.
• Experience in web-based promotion, including, but not limited to the effective use of social media and email marketing to achieve promotional/communications goals.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Effective team player with ability to capture client/project requirements and translate into workable communications solutions.
• Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.


• 2-3 years of experience in writing assignments for public relations, media relations, journalism, advertising or in-house communications department preferred.

• Template-based design and production experience required.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices.
Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required.
